Alliances Field Engineer

to help our biggest partners (companies like Intel, Nvidia, Google, Dell, HP, Accenture, Tata and the like) understand and embrace our open source platform for themselves and their customers.

Our worldwide field engineering team apply expert insights to real-world customer problems, enabling the enterprise adoption of Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, AI/MLOps and a wide range of associated technologies. We are experts in the whole open source stack, from kernel to desktop, from cloud to the edge. Our team is also interested in business problems - building things reliably, efficiently and cost-effectively, and we have to learn to speak the language of our customers and their industries.

We help global companies embrace public and private cloud infrastructure, cloud native operations, and open source applications. For this team we are looking for several Alliances Engineers to support OEM (hardware manufacturers), GSI (global system integrators), ISV (independent software vendors), Channel partners and Public Cloud alliance partners. You will support various alliances and partners of Canonical to adopt our products and technologies, help business leaders to define joint go-to-market programs with partners from the technical standpoint.

What your day will look like

Understand Ubuntu, Linux, networking and services in real-world environments Architect cloud infrastructure solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, OpenStack, Ceph, and Spark either On-Premises or in Public Cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) Architect and integrate popular open source software such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Cassandra and NGINX Help partners to offer and architect joint solutions utilizing Canonical's technologies on top of the public clouds and in the data center Design and publish joint Reference Architectures and perform technical validations with various partners Prepare and run onboarding sessions/workshops with various partners' teams to promote Canonical products and solutions

What we are looking for in you

This role has very diverse responsibilities. The team members are Linux and cloud solutions architects for our customers, designing private and public cloud solutions fitting their workload needs. They are also software engineers who use Python to develop Kubernetes operators and Linux open source infrastructure-as-code.

Technical Support and Service Execution

1. Support the design and delivery of well-engineered, cost-effective solutions for customers.

Your Development Journey

You’ll be enrolled in our 4-year Field Engineer Technical Development Program, which blends classroom learning with real-world experience:

Year 1: Work with guidance and take part in hands-on training at one of our global centers. Travel may be needed to gain real-world experience Year 2: Take on more responsibility at the wellsite while continuing to grow your technical skills through hands-on and classroom training Years 3 & 4: Expanding your knowledge and skills, and may lead teams at the wellsite while serving as the main contact for our clients Your day-to-day could include:

Prepare, deploy, and operate advanced downhole tools to meet specific wellsite objectives Utilize cutting-edge simulation software to design and optimize wellsite solutions tailored to client needs Analyze performance data and recommend improvements Manageequipment logistics and ensure seamless setup and operation at the rig site Create detailed post-job reports and share actionable insights with clients and internal teams Champion a culture of continuous improvement with a strong focus on safety, quality, and performance Deliver front-line engineering support to our customers throughout operations, resolving issues independently What We’re Looking For

You’ve recently completed (within the last 24 months) a bachelor’s or master’s degree in one of the following technical fields:

Mechanical Electrical Petroleum other engineering-related disciplines

Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to analyse complex problems, apply critical thinking, and make informed decisions A passion for hands-on work and learning in dynamic environments(onshore and offshore) English language proficiency (written and spoken) – Upper Intermediate and higher What to Expect

This role is physically and mentally demanding. You’ll work 12-hour shifts (day or night), often in tough weather conditions. You may be away from home for extended periods, including weekends and holidays. But if you’re up for the challenge, the rewards are big.

We are hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT to expand our reach in mission-critical industries such as Automotive, Medical Devices, Industrial Systems, Robotics, and Telco, as well as Consumer Electronics. We are looking for candidates who are accomplished Linux plumbers. The server edition of Ubuntu is already very widely used in connected devices and industrial PC's. Our edition of Ubuntu tailored for IoT, called Ubuntu Core, represents the state of the art in security and resilience for high end appliances and equipment. We continue to expand our range of offerings to bring our security, management and developer experience to the smallest Linux environments and devices. This career opportunity requires a unique blend of skills. Successful candidates will know Linux well and be proficient coders and scripters. They will have experience of low-level Linux boot, BIOS, EFI, Secure Boot, firmware, OS Distribution packaging and generally speaking embedded software development methodologies. • Engage customers during presales to gather requirements and explain our technology
• Elaborate solutions to be proposed to prospective clients
• Participate to the delivery of select projects related to Embedded Linux
• Convey market requirements to key stakeholders in our organization, and sometimes participate to the development or refining of generic solutions to unlock market potential

What we are looking for in you

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related technical field
• Extensive Linux experience - Debian or Ubuntu preferred
• Distribution / Packaging experience (deb, rpm, .)
• Solid embedded Linux experience (Yocto, Buildroot.)
• Fluency in at least one of Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust
• Professional written and spoken English in addition to the local language
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Result-oriented, ability to multi-task
• A personal drive to meet commitments
• An humble learner and quick study
• Albeit many projects can be done remotely, the successful candidate will be willing to travel up to 30% of the time for customer meetings, company events, and conferences
• For positions in Japan and Korea, the successful candidates will also be able to speak and write the local language at a professional level.
