We are expanding our in-house legal team, creating an opportunity for an exceptional recent graduate as junior Legal Advisor or junior Legal Counsel. The successful candidate will be a rigorous and effective practitioner with a track record of academic achievement and social engagement. At Canonical they will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transactional matters in the technology and enterprise software realm, as well as the contracts that underpin global employment, contracting and partnerships. In this appointment we are more focused on ability than experience; the position is open to applicants with a relevant degree, but does not have a requirement for extensive work experience. The successful candidate will work closely with our in-house legal team and colleagues worldwide.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate good commercial judgment as well as being organized, efficient, and capable to provide high quality legal and commercial advice. We are looking for a rigorous work ethic, detailed analysis, conscientiousness, and the ambition to identify opportunities for improvement.
Location : This role is home based in Europe, the Middle East, Africa or the Americas, with the option of our London office.
The role entails
- Report to our global general counsel
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with customers and vendors in many countries across the globe
- Provide legal support to various internal clients across the company, including Canonical's sales organization
- Interface with cross-functional teams to support company initiatives
- Utilize Canonical's contract management system to ensure accurate data is maintained for signed contracts
- Work with local counsel in many countries to seek and implement advice
- An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
- A degree in law, JD or equivalent, and active license to practice law or current progress towards that
- Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment

Align strategies and policies set by the executive management to ensure that the department meets its goals. Furthermore, to advise, plan, direct, analyze, investigate, draft and coordinate the administrative and operational activities of the legal unit across all GCC offices with the respective teams, advisories and government entities.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
Management:
- Provides strategic legal advice to senior management and other departments on corporate governance, compliance, focus and a sense of direction to the department, employees and management
- Establish and carry out the departmental goals, policies, and procedures
- Manage general activities related to providing the departmental services
- Consult with other executives, staff, and team members with regards to legal advisory, operations, and other issues
- Direct and manage the financial and budgetary activities of the legal unit
- Analyze the required legal, official, financial statements, reports, and other performance indicators and provide the necessary feedback and recommendations
- Identify areas of raising efficiency and effectiveness and to improve performance, policies, and programs
- Monitor control and approve capital and non-capital expenditures and audit effectiveness.
- Endeavor to develop and succeed in maintaining appropriate company image that strives towards excellence in satisfying customers
- Develop quantified M.B.O. plans to ensure that the process propagates through all levels
- To maintain viable and healthy relation with strategic accounts, business partners, corporate, commercial, official entities, and government bodies

Technical:
- Conduct legal analysis and research on various legal matters for the group.
- Interpret laws, rulings and regulations for individuals and the group.
- Provide advice on different legal issues and assist in drafting viable legal advisory, agreements, memorandum and other related documents, drafting wide range of commercial contracts, ensuring adherence to applicable laws
- Be actively involved in preparing and drafting of different acts and legal submissions and draft the authoritative legal opinions as well
- Analyze the probable outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedents.
- Formulating the best possible legal solution after analyzing the legal problem in depth.
- Gather evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal actions by such means as interviewing clients and witnesses to ascertain the facts of a case.
- Represent clients in court (as per local laws) or before government agencies.
- Evaluate findings and develop strategies and arguments in preparation for presentation of cases.
- Advise clients concerning business transactions, claim liability, advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits, or legal rights and obligations.
- Examine legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuit.
- Prepare, draft, and review legal documents, such as wills, deeds, patent applications, mortgages, leases, and contracts.
- Study the respective laws, statutes, decisions, regulations, and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies to determine ramifications for cases.
- Negotiate settlements of civil disputes.
- Supervise legal assistants/advisors where applicable.
- Negotiate contractual agreements of all forms.
- Confer with colleagues with specialties in appropriate areas of legal issue to establish and verify bases for legal proceedings.
- Conduct legal research by utilizing various resources and selecting the relevant material to analyze the legal information
- Perform administrative and management functions related to the practice of law.

- Act as agent, trustee, guardian, or executor for businesses or individuals.
- Help develop ad draft and interpret laws and legislation and establish enforcement procedures.
- Provide legal assistance in legal tasks, litigations, contracts, dispute resolution and guide management on taking an appropriate decision, oversee litigation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution processes involving the company, working closely with external counsel when necessary
Policy and Procedure:
- Ensure the implementation of all organizational policies and procedures as per respective regulations and laws
- Ensure the implementation of all regulatory and SLA protocols
Safety & Risk Management:
- Ensure unit risk management plan is in place and applied,
- Identify and assess legal risks associated with the company’s operations and provide solutions to mitigate these risks
- Responsible for managing the legal unit’s exposure to operational risks
- Ensure commitment to all QHSE protocols and procedure as per organizational and official requirements Training Conduct legal training sessions for employees to raise awareness of legal risks and compliance obligations.
- Contribute to trainings and workshops to ensure employee awareness about corporate legal policy and procedure is in line with business and legal requirements
Reporting:
- Provides written reports in the appropriate medium as per schedule
- Provides research and documentation for all required matters
Minimum Job Requirements
A. Education : University Graduate (preferable higher level of education MBA, and/or PhD) in the fields of Law (Business, Civil, International, and Commercial).Management Trainings
B. Professional Experience : From eight (8) to ten (10) years’ experience gained through increasingly responsible positions within similar and related fields within the legal or business market (particularly in retail, real estate, and corporate law).
A minimum of five (5) years recent experience as a legal advisor within the legal or business market (particularly in retail, real estate, and corporate law).
C. Competencies Required: Proficiency in MS Office packages; e-mail and internet etiquette, business valuation and acquisition; feasibility studies preparation; business plan presentations, data research and interpretation.
Familiarity with risk assessment.
Knowledge of Corporate Governance regulations and formulation.
Familiarity with related government sectors’ regulations.
Capable negotiator and persuader with the ability for critical thinking.
Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
Physically and mentally fit for the job

- Monitors and ensures the business provisions of assigned contracts are administered to ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions. Keeps the Projects Contracts Manager advised as to the scope, financial, and risk features of applicable contracts;
- Ensures documentation to negotiate change orders are properly produced and maintained;
- Prepares letters to clients requesting approvals and interpretations necessary to comply with the provisions of the contract;
- Ensure project/facility acceptance documents are prepared and are followed through and that acceptances are signed by the client;
- Furnishes business and financial information requested by the client concerning the project, as delegated by the Project Manager;
- Identifies contractual problems and take appropriate action to ensure a satisfactory resolution. Follows up on those problems which demand management attention, to ensure timely response to the client; and Management of Contract Quality standards.
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Bachelor Degree in Science or Arts.
- Chartered status (MRICS) or equivalent professional qualification post graduation experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Contractual Terms & Conditions and Commercial Contract Law;
- Excellent understanding & extensive experience of the procurement and contract administration processes and principles from preparation and issue of Bidders Lists, Contracting Plans and bid invitation package preparation through to award, administration and close out of Contracts;
- Strong grasp of procedural requirements & necessity of providing an Audit Trail for Management purposes;
- Middle East/Arabian Gulf experience is preferred but not mandatory.

The RoleProvide management and key departments such as Sales and CEO Support Office (SPMO) with legal services and advice related to projects and operations, ensuring that Ooredoo Telecom interests and objectives are adequately protected and achieved through legal means.
Providing all departments of Phono and Fast Telco with legal services, consultations, and representing it before all governmental entities such as courts, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Social Affairs to protect the best interests of Ooredoo and its subsidiaries.
Key Responsibilities- Represent Ooredoo, Phono, and Fast Telco in all Kuwait’s courts, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Social Affairs, CITRA, and other official entities.
- Prepare proper legal defenses and provide them when needed along with all related documents to Kuwait’s courts and all other official entities.
- Assist, brief, and liaise with externally retained lawyers on specific cases and provide consultations when needed.
- Represent Ooredoo in the claim review committee during resolving complex local/international legal disputes/negotiations and is authorized to settle based on broad parameters/policy guidelines determined by department managers.
- File compensation, criminal, civil, tax official claims/legal cases for Ooredoo, Phono, and Fast Telco when needed.
- Cooperate with internal departments to collect information related to legal cases or official warnings and provide proper legal recommendations/defense based on the information.
- Keep abreast of developments in case law, rulings, and other aspects of professional knowledge.
- Draft and review contracts, acknowledgments, official letters, and all required legal documents in English and Arabic.
- Create and revise internal procedures such as HR policies, SLAs, and disciplinary codes in accordance with Kuwaiti law.
- Liaise with internal departments to provide legal services on issues related to contracts, licensing, operations, and projects.
- Provide legal consultation and recommendations to all departments as needed.
- Conduct internal investigations in collaboration with HR and other departments.
- Support external criminal and labor investigations by attending investigations at relevant authorities.
- Provide legal training and workshops on laws and regulations relevant to the business.
- Lecture law students and graduates about legal procedures in the communication sector.
- Stay informed of developments, knowledge, and innovations in the legal field.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisors.
- Bachelor's degree in law from a recognized tertiary institution.
- 5-6+ years of experience in corporate legal services and consultation.
- Ability to operate in a diverse, multicultural, multinational environment with appropriate sensitivities.
- Qualified to practice independently.
- Strong knowledge of the Kuwait legal system.
- Fluent in verbal and written English and Arabic.
- Proficient in MS Office.

Provides support to the Human Resources Department. Under direct supervision, work with all aspects of credentialing and licensing legislation for physicians and medical professional staff, premises licenses, equipment licenses, etc.

Job Responsibilities:
- Arranging MOH registration application licenses for all clinical and technical staff and reviews all applied documents with the team to verify compliance with the required qualifications.
- Contacts the selected physician after obtaining approval on their applications to complete the process.
- Drafts the required correspondence to request personal interview appointment for the clinical and technical staff; and revise it with the supervisor.
- Work on completion of the personal file for the mentioned staff in relation to preparation of appointment decisions, follows up on signing the employment contracts, data entry of all their personal information into the current software system.
- Follows up with representatives on the procedures in the Health Licensure department in the Ministry of Health in Kuwait and the work process and reports it to the supervisor.
- Maintains an updated database of the work process; checks licenses in relation to issuance, renewal, and termination; coordinates with the supervisor and follows up with representatives.
- Work with other duties regarding the General Assembly, Kuwait Municipal.
- Submits the requested reports whenever needed.
- Works on self-professional development throughout self-training programs and readings, improves professional communications with workmates.
- Maintains top confidentiality for all the information coming to their knowledge.
- Ensures safety standards (occupational and patient safety) and HR best practices are complied with.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Direct Reporting Authority.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's University Degree in any field is required.
- Certification in Human Resources Management is a plus.
- Minimum 3 years previous experience in licensing.
