We are looking for a talented and skilled Junior Legal Counsel to join our multicultural and diverse team in Kuwait. The role involves providing administrative and clerical support to optimize workflow procedures in the office and managing day-to-day legal activities to support the company's operations.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Providing proactive, solutions-focused, legally sound advice and support in a timely manner.
  • Leading the review, drafting, negotiation, and amendment of a broad spectrum of commercial contracts.
  • Advising the company on rights and responsibilities under Kuwaiti laws.
  • Monitoring local regulatory trends that could impact business operations.
  • Handling dispute resolution and providing active legal involvement.
  • Managing the use, quality, and cost of external legal counsel.
  • Offering advice on corporate law matters and providing company secretarial support.
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including trade embargo regulations.
  • Preparing and reviewing tender documents to ensure clarity and compliance with requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Law degree from a reputable university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of legal practice.
  • Experience in law firms is preferred; experience in large corporate settings is also valued.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry is advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of Kuwaiti laws, including Company Law.

Languages

  • Excellent command of English and Arabic.

We are expanding our in-house legal team, creating an opportunity for an exceptional recent graduate as junior Legal Advisor or junior Legal Counsel. The successful candidate will be a rigorous and effective practitioner with a track record of academic achievement and social engagement. At Canonical they will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transactional matters in the technology and enterprise software realm, as well as the contracts that underpin global employment, contracting and partnerships. In this appointment we are more focused on ability than experience; the position is open to applicants with a relevant degree, but does not have a requirement for extensive work experience. The successful candidate will work closely with our in-house legal team and colleagues worldwide.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate good commercial judgment as well as being organized, efficient, and capable to provide high quality legal and commercial advice. We are looking for a rigorous work ethic, detailed analysis, conscientiousness, and the ambition to identify opportunities for improvement.

Location : This role is home based in Europe, the Middle East, Africa or the Americas, with the option of our London office.

The role entails

  • Report to our global general counsel
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with customers and vendors in many countries across the globe
  • Provide legal support to various internal clients across the company, including Canonical's sales organization
  • Interface with cross-functional teams to support company initiatives
  • Utilize Canonical's contract management system to ensure accurate data is maintained for signed contracts
  • Work with local counsel in many countries to seek and implement advice

  • A degree in law, JD or equivalent, and active license to practice law or current progress towards that

  • Liaising with the Transport Department for pick-up instructions. Managing business cards workflow and retaining them.
  • Distributing VIP/normal giveaways according to approved distribution lists.
  • Handling NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements) and updating the "List of Suppliers" as per signed NDAs.
  • Ensuring all files and supplier lists are updated and accessible to top management.
  • Acting as a replacement for the Chairman's office manager during their absence.
  • Processing top management correspondences with strict confidentiality.
  • Managing travel services, including air tickets, travel insurance, hotel arrangements, and more.
  • Handling various administrative tasks, filing, and correspondence.
  • Executing Oracle-based services like travel requests, leave requests, purchase requisitions, etc.
  • Ethical liaison with other department heads.
  • Taking responsibility for managers' expense reports.
  • Participating in cross-training as required.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key constituents to ensure adherence to company policies.
  • Complying with Health, Safety, and Environment regulations.
  • Executing top management instructions when directed.

Required Qualification

  • Education: University graduate in Administration or any relevant field (required)
  • Work Experience: 3 to 5 years of executive administrative duties, advanced MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Oracle user, skilled in filing workflow and document control, performing a wide range of administrative and coordination tasks and supporting Senior Management and legal teams
  • Language: Bilingual (Arabic & English)
  • Should have worked on Salah Al Jassem Software/Application.
  • Understanding of Kuwait corporate legal compliance
  • Knowledge of legal framework governing business operations in Kuwait.

Job Description

We are seeking a talented and driven Legal Associate to join our Legal team in Kuwait. This role is pivotal in supporting our operations across Kuwait and affiliated entities throughout the GCC region.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and manage a wide range of contracts, NDAs, MOUs, and commercial agreements (local and cross-border).
  • Advise management on operational and strategic legal matters, primarily in Kuwait, with oversight support across other GCC jurisdictions.
  • Conduct legal research and ensure compliance with commercial, civil, labor, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and communicate updates on laws and regulations issued by Kuwaiti authorities.
  • Coordinate litigation efforts through external counsel and manage legal risks across the group.
  • Support licensing, compliance, and supplier/client legal due diligence.
  • Attend internal and external meetings to ensure legal interests are represented.
  • Maintain thorough and traceable contract records and legal documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); LLM is a plus.
  • 4–6 years’ experience in a law firm or in-house legal team.
  • Deep understanding of Kuwaiti commercial, civil, and labor laws.
  • Exposure to GCC cross-border legal matters is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional contract drafting and legal analysis skills.
  • Fluent in Arabic and English – written and spoken.
  • Strong communication, research, and multitasking capabilities.
