Location: This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region.

What your day will look like

• Work remotely with a globally distributed team, driving technical excellence and fostering innovation across diverse engineering environments.
• Design and architect high-performance service APIs to power streaming data services, ensuring seamless integration across teams and products using Python and Golang.
• Develop robust governance, auditing, and management systems within our advanced telemetry platform, ensuring security, compliance, and operational integrity.
• Partner with our infrastructure team to build scalable cloud-based SaaS solutions while also delivering containerized on-prem deployments for enterprise customers.
• Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of new features—taking projects from spec to production, ensuring operational excellence at scale.
• Provide technical oversight, review code and designs, and set best practices to maintain engineering excellence.
• Engage in high-level technical discussions, collaborating on optimal solutions with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders.
• Work remotely with occasional global travel (2-4 weeks per year) for internal and external events, fostering deeper collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

• You design and architect scalable backend services, messaging/data pipelines, and REST APIs using Golang or Python, guiding best practices, technical direction, and system scalability.
• You possess deep expertise in cybersecurity principles and proactively address the complex challenges of IoT environments—secure connectivity, data streaming, governance, and compliance.
• You bring proven expertise in designing and optimizing systems using:

We are hiring a Lead Data Governance Engineer with focus on data governance policies, processes, standards, and monitoring in compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory frameworks, e.g., GDPR, DPA, ISO, etc. A successful candidate will develop Python-based tooling to automate the operations of an internal data mesh solution such as data labeling and quality metrics in a data, access management and data security best practices.

The Data Governance team in the Commercial Systems unit has a mission to enable a secure and well-governed access to comprehensive data sets originating at many internal and external data sources formed in a data mesh. The team works with well-known open-source data governance tools such as Trino and Ranger, defines and executes data governance processes, and democratizes the data at Canonical.

Lead Data Governance Engineer

with focus on data governance policies, processes, standards, and monitoring in compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory frameworks, e.g., GDPR, DPA, ISO, etc. A successful candidate will develop Python-based tooling to automate the operations of an internal data mesh solution such as data labeling and quality metrics in a data, access management and data security best practices.

The Data Governance team in the Commercial Systems unit has a mission to enable a secure and well-governed access to comprehensive data sets originating at many internal and external data sources formed in a data mesh. The team works with well-known open-source data governance tools such as Trino and Ranger, defines and executes data governance processes, and democratizes the data at Canonical.

The data platform team is responsible for the automation of data platform operations. Data Center Storage Engineers support the enterprise storage infrastructure for all sites within the RCC-SWA Area of Responsibility and provide optimization, administration and technical documentation for the enterprise storage infrastructure. DCSEs resolve enterprise-level change requests and act as the top-level of support escalation for all enterprise storage support issues. Principal technical areas include NetApp, EMC, VMware, Windows DFS, Cisco UCS and other related storage, virtualization, networking, and monitoring technologies.

Responsibilities
+ Enterprise-level support for NetApp CIFS, NFS, iSCSI and FC/FCoE storage presented to a wide array of systems including VMware ESXi, Unix, and Linux clients as well as Windows file services and desktop clients. Periodic reports on storage capacity and utilization as well as system uptime and performance. Top-tier support for escalated issues and complex projects. + Experienced with VMware storage requirements, configuration, and provisioning. Proficient in planning, installation, configuration, and upgrades of the NetApp storage infrastructure. The top-tier of support for storage projects and solutions for backup, disaster recovery, consolidation/de-duplication, data protection, performance, upgrades, and system audit tasks.
+ Documentation for Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) for configuring and managing storage, storage networks, and physical disks as well as data protection, access control, resource monitoring and management, storage high availability, fault tolerance and scalable storage infrastructure.
+ The work environment will be 95% indoors and 5% outdoors.

Data Center Network Engineers support the Enterprise-class infrastructure of the RCC-SWA. RCC-SWA engineers provide optimization, administration, and technical documentation of all enterprise infrastructure systems. The core infrastructure technology duties include an in-depth understanding of Cisco's Nexus switching, ASR routing, UCS compute platforms, and lifecycle management planning. Responsibilities
+ Produce enterprise-level support for a dynamic and large-scale networking infrastructure from the perspective of service origination in the data center, as well as service delivery in the global transport architecture. Provide expert level knowledge of data center infrastructure hardware such as Nexus 9000 series switches, Fabric Extenders, UCS chassis' and UCS Fabric Interconnects. Along with assuming the expert role regarding vPC, FCoE, Catalyst VSS, MPLS L3VPN, eBGP/iBGP, OSPF/EIGRP, DMVPN, FlexPod design philosophy, among other tunneling and data center-centric technologies.
