The role of a Junior Data Engineer at Canonical
Canonical has provided developers with open source since 2004, helping them build innovations such as public cloud, machine learning, robotics or blockchain. We're on the look out for a marketing data analyst to join our team and execute on our growth hacking strategy.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about technology, technology marketing and the use of technology in marketing. The Marketing team at Canonical drives commercial outcomes for the company across its portfolio of products and grows the addressable market through digital marketing campaigns, lifecycle management, events, partnerships and community development. This role sits in the Marketing team reporting to the Growth Engineering Manager.
Location: This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region.
What your day will look like
- Utilise advanced data analytics to grow Canonical's product adoption and market penetration
- Focus on quantitative and qualitative data analytics to find insights and meaningful business outcomes
- Design and conduct experiments with data, visualisation and insights into Canonical's target audiences
- Collaborate with stakeholder teams (Product Management, Engineering, Information Systems, Finance, RevOps, etc) to improve the data and tool ecosystem
- Put in place and maintain systems to ensure teams across the company have self-service access to data dashboards
- Background in data science, mathematics, actuarial science, or engineering
- Knowledge in advanced statistics, data sciences, coding/scripting languages (Python, JS, etc), and databases (SQL, etc)
- Strength in data analytics and visualisation (Looker Studio, Tableau, Apache Superset, etc)
- Ability to translate business questions to key research objectives
- Ability to identify the best methodology to execute research, synthesise and analyse findings
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Willingness to examine the status quo and resilient in the face of challenges
Your base pay will depend on various factors including your geographical location, level of experience, knowledge and skills. - Own data models and transformations within cloud data platforms such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Databricks.
- Leverage AWS-native services (e.g., S3, Lambda, Glue, Step Functions, Kinesis,DMS, MSK) or GCP/Azure/OCI equivalents for building data lakehouse and warehouse solutions.
- You will lead initiatives to modernize Tap’s data stack and support our journey toward AI/ML-driven intelligence.
- Collaborate with analytics, product, and machine learning teams to provision clean, reliable, and timely datasets.
- Apply CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code principles using tools like Terraform, GitLab CI, or AWS CDK to deploy and manage data infrastructure.
- Enforce data governance, quality checks, lineage, and compliance frameworks using tools such as Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, or Apache Atlas.
- Implementing robust data logging, alerting, and observability strategies using tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or CloudWatch.
- Partnering with DevSecOps and InfoSec to ensure compliance with ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, and regional data protection regulations.
- Monitor and tune job performance, cost, and resource usage across environments.
What you will bring to the party:
- 4 - 7 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, working in high-scale, cloud-native environments.
- Proven track record of building and optimizing data pipelines, managing data lakes, and architecting data warehouse solutions in fast-paced technology, fintech, or digital-first organizations.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Deep proficiency in Python for data processing and scripting, and strong command of SQL for analytics and data modeling.
- Experience with Structured and unstructured database systems(RDBMS, NOSQL, Columnary, NewSQL)
- Experience with cloud data ecosystems like AWS (S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda), Azure (Data Factory, Synapse), or GCP (BigQuery, Dataflow).
- Experience and knowledge of BI tools
- Familiarity with orchestration and workflow tools such as Apache Airflow or other equivalent scale tools.

Data Center Network Engineers support the Enterprise-class infrastructure of the RCC-SWA. RCC-SWA engineers provide optimization, administration, and technical documentation of all enterprise infrastructure systems. Additionally, engineers resolve and appropriately complete assigned cases and change requests while acting as an escalation point for troubleshooting issues. The core infrastructure technology duties include an in-depth understanding of Cisco’s Nexus switching, ASR routing, UCS compute platforms, and lifecycle management planning. The MCF is managed by the RCC-SWA and provides enterprise Information Technology (IT) services to approved Army customers.

You must satisfy all host country requirements to legally work in the host country in order to be qualified for this position.
Responsibilities
- Produce enterprise-level support for a dynamic and large-scale networking infrastructure from the perspective of service origination in the data center, as well as service delivery in the global transport architecture. Provide expert level knowledge of data center infrastructure hardware such as Nexus 3K/5K/9K, Fabric Extenders, UCS chassis and UCS Fabric Interconnects. Along with assuming the expert role in regard to vPC, FCoE, Catalyst VSS, MPLS L3VPN, MPLS Traffic Engineering, eBGP/iBGP, OSPF/EIGRP, DMVPN, QOS, FlexPod design philosophy, among other tunneling and data center-centric technologies. While also offering a basic understanding of VMware’s vSphere infrastructure and the virtual networking components for troubleshooting purposes.
- Installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the data center environment are primary roles in this position. Provides change control and engages Cisco TAC for issues, modifications and best practices when needed. Monitors availability and reliability of the data center network and supported infrastructure utilizing Spectrum and Solarwinds Orion. Executes engineering best practices in network builds, integration, testing, and documentation while adhering to security fundamentals provided by DISA’s Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
- Ability to assess networking requirements and provide solutions.
- Ability to make accurate and independent decisions under pressure.
- Experience with a customer service oriented company.

What your day will look like
The data platform team is responsible for the automation of data platform operations.
