We are looking for a talented and skilled Junior Legal Counsel to join our multicultural and diverse team in Kuwait. The role involves providing administrative and clerical support to optimize workflow procedures in the office and managing day-to-day legal activities to support the company's operations.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Providing proactive, solutions-focused, legally sound advice and support in a timely manner.
- Leading the review, drafting, negotiation, and amendment of a broad spectrum of commercial contracts.
- Advising the company on rights and responsibilities under Kuwaiti laws.
- Monitoring local regulatory trends that could impact business operations.
- Handling dispute resolution and providing active legal involvement.
- Managing the use, quality, and cost of external legal counsel.
- Offering advice on corporate law matters and providing company secretarial support.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including trade embargo regulations.
- Preparing and reviewing tender documents to ensure clarity and compliance with requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Law degree from a reputable university.
- Minimum of 5 years of legal practice.
- Experience in law firms is preferred; experience in large corporate settings is also valued.
- Experience in the manufacturing industry is advantageous.
- In-depth knowledge of Kuwaiti laws, including Company Law.
Languages
- Excellent command of English and Arabic.
Skills
- Strong contract drafting and interpretation skills.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Ability to provide sound legal advice.
- Capability to handle complex legal issues.

**Duties may include but will not be limited to**:
- Provide proactive solutions-focused, legally sound advice and support in a timely fashion.
- Take the legal lead role in reviewing, drafting, negotiating and/or amending a broad spectrum of commercial contracts, including MOUs, NDAs, shareholders agreements, ancillary services agreements, EPC contracts, supply contracts, distribution agreements, maintenance agreements, financial instruments e.g. bank guarantees, letter of credit.
- Advise the Company on its rights and responsibility under the applicable laws of Kuwait.
- Monitor trends in the local regulation that may affect the operation of the business.
- Advise on general corporate law matters and provide timely and efficient company secretarial support e.g. minutes of the board of directors’ meetings, and ordinary and extraordinary general assembly meetings.
- Prepare and review tenders’ documents to ensure that tenders’ requirements are clearly understood, covered, and fulfilled to the businesses’ requirements, and coordinate, follow up and manage subsequent tenders’ clarification, approval and contracts’ award.

In this appointment we are more focused on ability than experience; the position is open to applicants with a relevant degree, but does not have a requirement for extensive work experience. The successful candidate will work closely with our in-house legal team and colleagues worldwide.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate good commercial judgment as well as being organized, efficient, and capable to provide high quality legal and commercial advice. We are looking for a rigorous work ethic, detailed analysis, conscientiousness, and the ambition to identify opportunities for improvement.
Location : This role is home based in Europe, the Middle East, Africa or the Americas, with the option of our London office.
The role entails
- Report to our global general counsel
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with customers and vendors in many countries across the globe
- Provide legal support to various internal clients across the company, including Canonical's sales organization
- Interface with cross-functional teams to support company initiatives
- Utilize Canonical's contract management system to ensure accurate data is maintained for signed contracts
- Work with local counsel in many countries to seek and implement advice
- An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
- A degree in law, JD or equivalent, and active license to practice law or current progress towards that
