This is an opportunity to run a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and in their own data centers. We work across the entire spectrum of cloud offerings, from Ubuntu itself to virtualisation and private cloud, Kubernetes, and the implementation of sophisticated open source solutions such as MLops platforms, data platforms and more. The role of a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical

The Field Engineering team is our team of cloud solutions architects at Canonical, working directly with our customers, designing private and public cloud solutions fitting their workload needs. The portfolio of products includes on-premise cloud solutions such as Openstack, MicroCloud and Ceph, and solutions that could be deployed either on-premises or in public clouds such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, etc. The team works hands-on with the technologies by deploying, testing and handing over the solution to our support or managed services team at the end of a project. Managers and team members also take part in presales conversations to provide technical advice during the sales process.

A Cloud Field Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. The ability to develop engineering talent, to represent your team from a technical perspective, and to drive collaboration with other teams and customers are all critical to success in this role. You are also expected to actively participate in technical presales to help our department achieve our quarterly goals.

Location: This role will be home based, managing a team in your time zone.

What your day will look like

  • Lead and develop a team of Field engineers, ranging from graduate to senior, in the areas of Presales and Professional Services
  • Solve customer problems by promoting our technologies and being a trusted advisor
  • Work remotely in a single major time zone
  • Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback
  • Identify and measure team health indicators
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  • Develop and evangelise great engineering and organisational practices
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects
  • Be an active part of the leadership team, collaborating with other leaders

What we are looking for in you

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts & technologies, such as Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph, etc.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux and networking
  • Experience in technical presales
  • You are a dynamic person who loves to jump in new projects and interact with people
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Passion and a track record of developing and growing people
  • Experience in leading, coaching and mentoring engineers
  • Organised and able to ensure your team delivers timely, high quality results
  • An exceptional academic track record from high school and, preferably, university as well
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time. Field Engineers attend internal company events, external tech events and customer meetings.

We are hiring a Cloud Support Engineer to build a career with Canonical and support the technical needs of customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. From triaging complex Cloud environment issues, Linux kernel crashes we've never seen before to OS configuration issues and root cause analysis, we provide an expert level of support and satisfaction to our peer groups and customers. We are rapidly expanding and are looking for talented problem solvers with a passion for working on the next generation of Ubuntu solutions for our customers.

Location: This is a globally remote role, unless specified otherwise.

The role entails

  • Investigate issues reported by customers by researching and escalating issues
  • Work to resolve complex customer problems related to Canonical's portfolio of products.
  • Ownership of results: Ensure that each support case owned by you is handled according to our Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the highest possible customer satisfaction by setting the right expectations and fulfilling your commitments.
  • Engage directly with customers and work collaboratively by phone, ticketing system, and remote sessions to resolve their issues.
  • Participate in a regular weekend working rotation.
  • Contribute new knowledge base articles and maintain existing articles, ensuring shared knowledge and lessons learned are available to customers.
  • Understanding Ubuntu development process to be able to set customer expectations correctly on timeline for a fix.

What are we looking for in you

  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path
  • Track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results
  • Hands-on and extensive working experience in supporting Linux systems including 3 or more of:
    • Virtualization / Cloud - primarily using KVM or OpenStack.
    • Containers - especially with Docker, LXD/LXC, or Kubernetes.
    • Storage technologies - block, object and network.
    • Networking (bonding, firewalling, bridging, switching, network file system tuning, MTU issues, etc.).
  • Cloud computing expertise in provisioning, monitoring, orchestration, etc.
  • Advanced troubleshooting experience:
    • Linux integration with other environments (authentication/directory services, network file systems, etc.).
    • Ability to navigate effectively stack traces and logs, and advise on next steps.
    • Solid understanding of OS and Application level bugs and when to escalate to the correct team.
  • Programming fundamentals in any language.
  • Extensive Customer support experience is key:
    • Customer needs are top priority.
    • Communicate professionally, emphatically, clearly and set the right expectations.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.

Job Description

Responsible for the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of various technologies managed by the IT Infrastructure department. This position will focus on the operation and administration of cloud infrastructure systems, managing and maintaining cloud security controls.

Your Responsibilities

Functional

  • Manage and support Microsoft office 365 suite, Azure Identity, endpoint management (Intune) and Microsoft SharePoint online
  • Deploy and operate cloud infrastructure resources, virtual machines, licenses, services and network integration
  • Manage and monitor Microsoft Defender for Endpoint to ensure real-time threat detection
  • Implement security access controls, maintain the cloud infrastructure security posture and hands-on experience on Microsoft Defender XDR suite and Microsoft 365 security and compliance portal
  • Participate in security incidents and forensic analysis upon requirement
  • Ensure infrastructure compliance with industry systems standards
  • Write scripts for the purpose of automating routine tasks, reports and ad hoc requirements
  • Address events raised by monitoring systems and analyz alerts’ trends to ensure system healthiness
  • Monitor, plan and coordinate the distribution of and applying operating system updates, patches and configuration changes
  • Work with system and services’ architects during major incidents and planned changes
  • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations
  • Document system configuration and incident technical details upon requirement

  • Ensure all Company and Department policies and procedures are followed.

Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of systems experience
  • Proven experience on Microsoft 365 administration, Azure Identity, SharePoint and OneDrive, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and Microsoft Defender for Cloud
Your Proficiencies
