Role Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our growing Tax & Legal Services team. The successful candidate will contribute to managing client tax matters, ensuring compliance, and delivering consulting solutions with professionalism and insight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply current tax laws, procedures, and tools to address client-specific challenges.
- Independently prepare recommendations and deliver insights, seeking guidance when needed.
- Review tax-related documents and reports to ensure clarity, accuracy, and solid technical analysis.
- Provide practical, high-quality advice that aligns with clients’ business objectives.
- Gather, evaluate, and interpret financial and tax data to create tailored recommendations.
- Use professional judgment and analytical skills to draw meaningful conclusions and challenge assumptions where necessary.
- Support clients with timely and accurate tax filings and compliance requirements.
- Manage tasks and deadlines within the broader compliance framework.
- Draft well-structured reports and correspondence, highlighting risks and proposing strategic solutions.
- Provide clients with advice on documentation and filing obligations, along with implications for financial reporting.
- Identify information gaps and ensure all necessary data is obtained for regulatory purposes.
- Prepare professional letters and documentation in response to queries or disputes raised by tax authorities.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Background in both compliance and advisory projects is essential.
- Exposure to international tax matters is an advantage.
- Strong research and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Familiarity with local tax laws and regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Advanced qualifications (MST, JD, LLM) or CPA are a plus.
- Fluent in English; Arabic fluency is a plus.

We are expanding our in-house legal team, creating an opportunity for an exceptional recent graduate as junior Legal Advisor or junior Legal Counsel. The successful candidate will be a rigorous and effective practitioner with a track record of academic achievement and social engagement. At Canonical they will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transactional matters in the technology and enterprise software realm, as well as the contracts that underpin global employment, contracting and partnerships. The successful candidate will work closely with our in-house legal team and colleagues worldwide.

The role entails
Report to our global general counsel Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with customers and vendors in many countries across the globe Provide legal support to various internal clients across the company, including Canonical's sales organization Interface with cross-functional teams to support company initiatives Utilize Canonical's contract management system to ensure accurate data is maintained for signed contracts Work with local counsel in many countries to seek and implement advice
