Job Description
Under general supervision, Radiologic technologists, also referred to as radiographers, produce x-ray films, MRI, CT, and Fluoroscopy (radiographs) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. They prepare patients for radiologic examinations by explaining the procedure, removing articles such as jewelry, through which x-rays cannot pass, and positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately radiographed.

Job Responsibilities:
- Apply and execute quality control policy according to MOH Kuwait on all equipment applicable.
- Observe all safety regulations set by the manufacturers while using any of the radiology equipment.
- Give appointments and preparation for patients when needed.
- Strictly observe the 10 days rule on female patients.
- Check on the requests for radiology exams (any missing data must be obtained before proceeding with the exam).
- Execute radiology examination only after fully understanding the requests written by the physicians.
- Apply all safety measures to keep the radiation dose as low as possible for the patients or staff (lead protection, collimation, high technique).
- Strictly follow the established protocols in diagnostic imaging dept. (exposure factors, distance, positions, slice thickness, sequences etc.) while performing any radiology exam.
- Monitor equipment operation and report any malfunctioning to supervisor without any delay.
- Perform all types of radiology exams which you are licensed for (general radiology exams, mammography, fluoroscopy, contrast exams, bone densitometry, CT-scan and MRI).
- Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
- Operate mobile equipment such as portable x-ray machines and C-arms whenever needed.
- Properly position patients on examination tables or stands for every exam.
- Set the optimum parameters for radiology exams.
- Calculate the exact amount of contrast needed for oral or IV administration.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs during contrast administration by the radiology nurse and notify the radiologist of any relevant changes.
- Incorporate the proper name of the patients on each film.
- Process the exposed films using film processors or laser imagers.
- Observe the quality of each film and repeat work which did not meet the established standards.
- Assure that all supplies needed in day-to-day work such as films, contrast, cannulas, and catheters are present and expiry dates are okay.
- Keep a list of all emergency drugs needed in the radiology dept. ready and make sure that Radiology Nurses are performing a daily check on the expiry dates.
- Coordinate work with other staff of the dept. including Radiologists, technologists, and nurses in the performance of more complicated procedures.
- Maintain records of patients examined, examinations, views, factors used, number of films, and exposures.
- Assist with on-the-job training of new employees and provide input to supervisors regarding training performance.
- Arrange appointments for radiology exams performed under coordination with the anesthesiology department.
- Check on the auto mixer levels regularly and add a developer or fixer when needed.
- Daily check the crossover cleanness of the film processors.
- Keep a monthly statistics file.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor in Radiology technology from a recognized institution.
- PACS knowledge.
- BLS/ACLS valid certification.
- 3 to 5 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- MOH Licensed in MRI/Mammogram.

- Adheres to and promotes compliance with the hospital’s radiation safety and protection and MRI safety policies and associated codes of practice and takes appropriate action where non-compliance is evident.
- Supports the Supervisor – Radiography to manage and maintain a high level of expertise and reducing faults/issues effectively to guarantee the safe operations of the Radiography equipment, ensuring an efficient flow and optimal utilization of resources.
- Check the X-ray request to verify the procedure recommended by the physician.
- The technician should select immobilization device, when necessary, to prevent the patient from moving during the procedure and also to ensure the patient's safety and comfort.
- All X-ray films should be labelled clearly with the patient's name, ID and hospital number.
- Confidentiality of the patient records should be maintained at all times.
- Before preparing contrast media for administration, information should be obtained to determine if the patient could be at risk from an adverse reaction.
- Monitor the patient's condition, i.e., vital signs, I.V. fluid, oxygen, etc., whenever required.
- An emergency trolley should be available all the time to react instantly for an emergency situation, if happened.
- At all times, the technician should preserve the dignity of the patient.
- A full explanation should be given to the patient, i.e., diet restrictions, preparatory medications, prior to an imaging procedure.
- The radiology technician should use X-ray equipment and accessories, employing techniques and procedures, in accordance with accepted safety standards and codes of practice.
- Wear a personal monitoring device while on duty, reviewing and evaluating individual occupational exposure reports.
- Reports any malfunctions of the equipment to the attending radiologist and the chief of technicians.
